Tell the Pennsylvania Legislature: It's time for a fracking tax to fund our schools
It’s no secret – hydraulic fracturing, or "fracking," is big business here in Pennsylvania.
Gas companies drilling in the state are reaping tremendous profits by tapping the state’s natural gas supply. But many Pennsylvania priorities – including the schools our kids depend on – remain underfunded. Governor Corbett cut a billion dollars from our schools.
If we're going to have fracking in Pennsylvania, then we need to do it in a way that protects the environment -- and ensures that the benefits flow to Pennsylvania taxpayers and schools.
That’s why Tom Wolf and I support a 5% fracking tax (a "severance tax") that allows Pennsylvania schools to share the wealth. Pennsylvania’s Governor Tom Corbett has been among the most vocal opponents of a fracking tax, instead choosing to side with his big-industry buddies.
Sign the petition and tell the Pennsylvania Legislature that as soon as Governor Corbett is out of the way, it's time to move quickly to restore Gov. Corbett's billion-dollar cut to our schools by passing a 5% fracking tax.
Pennsylvania schools are underfunded, even as oil and gas companies reap huge profits from our land through hydraulic fracturing. It’s time for a 5% fracking tax on gas drillers to restore funding for our schools and build a better future for Pennsylvania's kids.
